Live coverage: What’s happening as Utah hosts TCU

The Deseret News is providing live coverage of Saturday’s game between Utah and TCU. Check back for updates throughout the game.
TCU 10, Utah 0
It was an ugly first half of football for Utah — the Utes trail by 10 at the break after failing to get anything going offensively.
TCU put up 242 yards of total offense, compared to 86 for the Utes — and Utah is fortunate not to be down more, after coming up with two red-zone stops on the Horned Frogs’ first two possessions.
The Utes had a chance to drive late in the half and add points — Isaac Wilson found Brant Kuithe for a 26-yard gain on third and 10 that moved the ball to the TCU 48 — with just under 40 seconds until halftime. The Horned Frogs were able to get pressure on Wilson, though, including a 10-yard sack, and stopped that threat.
TCU’s Josh Hoover completed 16 of 26 passes for 196 yards in the first half, while Wilson was 7 of 14 for 51 yards.
Utah’s only offensive playmaker to make a meaningful impact was running back Micah Bernard, who had 51 yards on eight carries. He briefly left with 2:28 until halftime and was limping as he headed to the medical tent, but Bernard returned to the field on Utah’s next possession.

2:28 — Micah Bernard was helped off the field after a carry, walking gingerly with a heavy limp and was headed straight to the medical tent.
Bernard has been the only offensive playmaker to have an impact in this game so far.
7:00 — The Horned Frogs are up double-digits, with Josh Hoover sneaking the ball up the middle in a scrum for a 1-yard touchdown. TCU 10, Utah 0.
The short score was set up by a 20-yard pass to Drake Dabney that got the ball within the 1. The drive covered 79 yards in eight plays.
The Horned Frogs currently have 230 yards of total offense to 49 for Utah and are fortunate to not be down even more, after forcing a fumble and blocking a field goal inside the red zone during the first quarter.
13:29 — TCU got on the board first, hitting a 23-yard field goal. TCU 3, Utah 0.
The Horned Frogs moved the ball 66 yards in nine plays for the game’s first scoring drive.

6:39 — One good block deserves another.
After TCU blocked a punt to start a drive at the Utah 15, the Utes got revenge and blocked a 23-yard field goal attempt to keep an entertaining game scoreless.
Tao Johnson was credited with the block.
10:57 — The first turnover of the game ended a promising TCU opening drive — quarterback Josh Hoover lost control of the ball and Van Fillinger recovered at the Utah 9.
Utah’s game against TCU will be televised on ESPN, with kickoff at 8:30 p.m. MDT.
